On June 25th 2006 the
“World Cosplay Summit 2006 Japan Preliminary Competition at Cosplay
Festa” was held in the Geopolis amusement complex at Tokyo Dome City.
We were really surprised when we arrived at Geopolis, the location
for the event.
There was already a super long line up!
Cindy, one of the representatives from Germany at WCS 2003 came along
as well.
Here are a few shots
at the reception area of some of the teams that signed up for the
preliminary event in Tokyo this year. The staff at the reception desk
was quite composed considering the line up went all the way around
the inner courtyard area. While people were waiting mini photo sessions
were taking place here and there around the courtyard.
As evening rolled around,
the stage area for the Tokyo preliminary event opened. There was an
air of excitement as many of the cosplayers in the audience danced
in coordination with the anime songs. The songs and dancing reached
a crescendo at around 7:00 pm when the stage performance for the preliminary
competition began. The 2 MC’s did a great job in setting the scene
and the performances started soon after.
The judges watched the
performances intently. The 10 teams that took to the stage put on
excellent performances and the crowd was really into it! As many as
2,300 people were there for the event and the hall was jam packed.
