The World Cosplay Summit 2007 was held as part of the ‘Visit Japan’ campaign promoted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. In 2007 it welcomed three new participating countries, Mexico, Korea and Denmark, and cosplayers gathered from a total of twelve countries.
As per the previous year, a press conference was held on August 1st in Akihabara, Tokyo.
The TV personality Shoko Nakagawa, who is known for her love of anime, cosplay and manga, was nominated as the New Ambassador for the World Cosplay Summit. Following the press conference, a visit was paid to the Foreign Ministry, becoming a hot topic in the media.
On the 4th August, 200 cosplayers from Japan and abroad gathered for the cosplay parade.
The World Cosplay Championships took place on August 5th, with guest commentators Toru Furuya and Shoko Nakagawa, and judges Monkey Punch, Ichiro Mizuki, and Essai Ushijima making an appearance.
Around 10,000 people attended the event.
Performances of a higher level than usual were seen at this year’s championships, and this year’s Grand Champions were the team from France.
