Brazil - 1st Preliminary Round Report

First selective of WCS 2009 already has a winner

After a year of intense selectives, with thrilling performances and a great Brazilian final, it's now time to restart the search for new competitors. And there would be no better opportunity than the XVI EIRPG event, that took place on days 5 and 6 of July, 2008, in Marista Arquidiocesano School, in Sao Paulo (Brazil).
Despite being the first selective, the participants' level kept the high standard. Well prepared presentations, with good scenaries and thousands of effects, a good sound edition and breathtaking interpretations made the audience sigh and smile.

The great winners for this selective were...

The great winners for this selective were the veteran double from Sao Paulo Petra Leon and Alessandra Fernandes, that staged a scene from Princess Knight manga. These cosplays were the same that gave Petra and Alessandra the second place at the Brazilian final, in 2008.
The double presented the same performance that moved thousands of fans in Elis Regina Auditorium, last year.
With a mix of singing, dancing, tap dancing and an accurate interpretation of the characters Safire and Satan, the double got the first place and conquered the right to compete at 2009's final (along with the double Gabriel and Jessica, 2008's winner and automatically classified for 2009's final).
Leonardo Doneda and Rachel Baptista, from Minas Gerais, got the second place and the right to dispute the online repechage. They interpreted the characters from the famous video game Final Fantasy. The chosen game of the series was Crisis Core, exclusive for PSP. The presentation brought to the stage a little bit of the game's action.
The other competitors showed great dedication and enthusiasm, with creative and well rehearsed presentations.
Gabriela Cristina and Erika Couto participated for the first time from a WCS selective. Their performance, based on anime Lovely Complex and filled with romance and funny faces, made the audience explode in laughs. The anime is not well-known in Brazil, nevertheless the spectators could appreciate and have fun with the presentation.
Helena Ferreira and Marcelo de Paula were not bad at all. Nothing more appropriate for a RPG event than a presentation inspired on a anime of vampires. The double brought Vampire Knight to the stage, with the characters Yuuki and Zero Kiryuu, in a classic scene of the story.
At last, Artur and Atila Salvador interpreted the characters Edward Elric and the fearsome Kizu no Otoko (better known as Scar), from the series Fullmetal Alchemist. They brought to life the scene in which Scar finally get Edward and almost have his revenge against the Metal Alchemist.
With such a good start, it seems that WCS 2009 promises lots of surprises.
