The World Cosplay Summit 2009 preliminary contest was held on September 13th at the Connichi 2008 in Germany. This years CONNICHI took place from September 12th to 14th in Kassel, Germany and had more than 14,500 visitors from Europe, Overseas and also from Japan.
15 teams participated in the contest. The jury consisted of one of the German representatives from WCS 2008 (Katharina Wehrmann), WCS 2007 (Anna Degenhard) and WCS 2006 (Daniela Gildenpfennig). Verena Fusari from Italy (WCS 2007), a cosplay photographer of the cosplay community "Cosplay Heaven" and a guest from AVEX Group.
The contest started with a short introduction movie and a best of WCS 2008 pictures presentation. Around 1,800 people watched the wonderful shows in the main hall. It was really hard for the jury to select the WCS 2009 team. Due to the support of Avex and Anime Virtual / Wasabi Records we had a really good 2nd and 3rd price for the attendees.
The German WCS 2009 team is Annabell Huwig and Iris Herrmann as Holy Bell and Belldandy from Oh!My Goddess. Second place Christin Jacob and Rita Lobok as Lelouch vi Britannia and Suzaku Kururugi from Code Geass. Third place Marcel Brielmeier and Diana Walter as Hikari and Koki from Pokemon Diamond & Pearl.
