With 3 new countries − Brazil, Thailand and Singapore − added this year, the World Cosplay Summit welcomed 22 representative cosplayers from 9 different countries(All participating countries: Italy, Germany, France, Spain, China, Brazil, Thailand, Singapore, Japan). Holding the operation of the Cosplay Summit in high regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport have come to support the event. In 2006 things started off in Akihabara, Tokyo on August 2nd where a press conference was held. On August 5th the yearly Osu Cosplay Parade in Nagoya took place with a record breaking 120 cosplayers participating. The next day the 2nd annual “Cosplay Championship” was held in the center of Nagoya on a special stage at the Oasis 21 complex. Invited back for a second year was the MC from Toru Furuya and over 5000 people were in attendance to watch the event. Go Nagai, Hiroshi Kitadani, Essai Ushijima and Yuji Tokita (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) were the judges. The grand champion this year was one of the new countries: Brazil.
