WCS2008

World Cosplay Summit 2008 was the 6th time the event was held.
The United States had not had representation since 2005 however cosplayers from the US did take part in 2008. 14 teams from 13 countries took part - France, Brazil, Italy, Germany, Spain, Denmark, Thailand, Singapore, China, Korea, Mexico, the United States and Japan (Tokyo and Osaka entries).  28 cosplayers in total took part. On July 30th, the 3 teams of France (2007 winner) Brazil (2006 winner) and the United States who had not participated for 3 years paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Onodera. Actress Natsuki Kato who is known as a great lover of animation and manga took part in the visit. She was wearing a gorgeous and pretty kimono inspired by Enma Ai from a manga "Jigoku Shoujo."
On August 2nd, about 300 people competed in the Osu Cosplay Parade, this number was a record over previous parades. A parade of about 100 meters long entertained the spectators.
The next day, (Aug 3rd) the Cosplay Championship was held and 12 thousand people came to see the spectacle. Voice actor Toru Furuya and model and actress Natsuki Kato were commentators for the event. manga artist Yumiko Igarashi, Rika Matsumoto (known as a voice actress and for singing the theme song of Pokemon) Tsutomu Nakagawa from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Hirotaka Yoshida who is a CEO of the company "Tora no Ana" took part in the championship as judges. With a fair judicial process in mind, 10 "audience judges" were randomly selected from those who applied through the internet in advance. Team Brazil revealed a brilliant performance to win the championship with their cosplay from "Angel's Adolescence". After 2006, this was the second time that Brazil claimed the honor of winning the grand championship.
