World Cosplay Summit 2009 was the 7th time the event was held.
In addition Finland and Australia, from 15 countries of the world (Australia, Brazil, China, Germany, Denmark, Spain, Finland, France, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Singapore, Thailand, United States) totally 30 cosplayers took part in this event.
On July 29 Brazil(Grand champion in 2008), China(Runners-up in 2008), Finland (new), Australia(new) and Sayuki Mori, Rikako Hirata in SKE48(Idol group・special supporter) visited the ministry of Foreign Affairs. They talked about Anime and Manga of each country with Kenjirou Monji the director of cultural exchanges.
August 1 11a.m.-1p.m. "Nishiki BouleVard Red Carpet March -Muneharu Tokugawa & World Cosplay Summit・Premium-" was held on Nishiki BouleVard that is main street of Nagoya. Unfortunately it was raining on that day. Takashi Kawamura, The Mayer of Nagoya City wearing costume of Muneharu Tokugawa and SKE48(Idol group) wearing lovely costume of Japanese princess and dressers paraded there. After the parade each representative cosplayers showed up on the red carpet to be introduced every duo. Then they paraded about 200 meters from International Hotel to SUNSHINE SAKAE. Large audience around the street enjoyed a lot to see them. End of the event they took a picture with Mr.Kawamura(The Mayer of Nagoya City) wearing the cosplay of Amuro Ray "Mobile Suit Gundam".
It was held an annual event "Osu Cosplay Parade" in the afternoon. 500 public cosplayers who became the most in the past joined the parade in the rain.
Next day August 2, the 5th "World Cosplay Championship" was held. It was the first time that Japan preliminary round had held the same day of World Cosplay Championship. It was broadcasted the place of the championship OASIS21 and the place of the preliminary round SUNSHINE SAKAE by relay.
As guest judge Go Nagai, manga artist(since 2006), Ichiro Mizuki, singer(since 2007), Toru Furuya, voice actor and Hamada Britney, manga artist were invited. Also 10 public judge attended, too.
The Japan representative duo got a glorious championship. They won the Japan preliminary round and ran to OASIS21 to show their performance as a final performer of the WCS2009. They wore the cosplay of Sengoku Basara and show a brave mock fighting. The audience was excited to see their performance. The Grand Champion of Japan representative is the first time in the record.
